  1. In my opinion, we as educators have a serious problem because we use a standard teaching for all our students without taking into account personality factors such as:beliefs, feelings, motivation, likes, dislikes, or to learning aspects as learning styles(multiple intelligences).
Then, it is important to bear in mind that in a classroom all students are not the same, each student is an individual being and develop his/her potentialities in different way, it´s for that, teachers should reflect on our professional practice and put into practice mechanisms which permit students to learn according to their own abilities.
Furthermore, teachers should think about students´ needs, reflect on aspects that may get the students´ atention, using a variety of strategies such as:games, videos, songs, materials, in general activities that allow students to express their feelings and emotions in order to improve their teaching and learning process.

  2. ACTIVITY NUMBER TWO.
the Didactics of English for Elementary School.

For the adequate teaching and learning of a language, we must begin seeing every child and every class as unique; where we take into account the old and the modern wisdom to put them together, so we can use the great power of learning that we have in our brains.
The first step toward communication is the learning of a language, that is the base of the teaching and learning in any other subject.
    According to the ideas presented by Howard Gardner in his work of multiple intelligences;
the same as Daniel Goleman and the emotional intelligence theory.

Doctor Paul Maclean in 1990 developed the
triune brain theory; demonstrating the division
of the brain in three parts: Reptile, Limbic and Neo-Cortex.
This theory shows the function of the right and
left brains. The first one in charge of creativity and imagination; and the second one in charge of logics and numbers. This theory - discovered by Doctor Roger Sperry - Nobel prize
in 1973 for this work - is important for language teachers to take into account when planning their classes, so they involve all kinds
    of learners.

    Yours,

    Herminio Castro Angulo.

  6. Each class of English is unique, every student is unique, so that each teacher must be prepared as soon as possibly to use the different strategies or different methods which willhelp the students in the learning of foreign language.
Everyone has an extraordinary potential of learning, the brain learns in a quick and natural way. The environment must be agrable where there isn!t stress.
It is important to know the investigations about the human brain for understanding the process of learning in each student. The english teaching takes part of learning language because It is the communication ineverywhere topics such as songs, videos, games,in general activiies that allows to express feelings, emotions in order to improve their teaching and learning process.Thanks. 12. Hello, teacher Virginia

Thank you for this reading. The topic is very interesting and useful.

I have atended to lectures about it and I've leaned to improve my lessons very much. The activities for stimulating each part of the brain have given very good results and that's one of the reasons because my highshool is one of the best in english teaching among public schools in my department. You can verify it in the ICFES exam results. We get very good scores year by year.

I think the reading about multiple intelligences is very important because this give us to understand very well the why students are very special in the learning process. It is an opportunity to identify de pros and the good aspects which will help them to learn a foreign language. Also for me is important because I can share experiences with the students about different methods.

  15. Dear Virginia
The article about the Didactics of the teaching of English as a Second Language is very complete and comprehensive.
It speaks first of the new theories of teaching, and the brain and its functions. Then, memory and the brain, and then styles of learning: VANKOG, explaining the meaning and relative importance of the various styles, and their application and suggesting activities to put them into use.
Then it treats of multiple intelligence, the eight intelligence. The discussion of the brain its construction and function is quite complete, with questions and examples of the excellent book by Anne Moir and David Jessel, “Brain Sex” explaining the masculine brain characteristically treats better such qualities as aggression, competitiveness, self-affirmation, self-confidence, and self-sufficiency whereas the female brain handles better such qualities as language and memory, sensorial conscience, and sociability and better personal relations, explaining that girls and women usually use language with greater fluidity and have larger vocabulary. Strangely the article fails that the masculine brain handles spatial matters, such as depth, width, and three dimensions etc. much better than the female brain handles matters of emotions and sentiments and sensations, much better than the masculine brain processing them in both hemispheres of the brain, instead of just one, as in the case of the masculine brain
The article dwells on matters of memory and the brain, the styles and then discusses at length the styles of learning (VAKOG): Visual (sight) Auditive (hearing), Kinesic (touch, feel) Olfate (smell or odor), gustative (taste), giving statistics and percentage of the relative styles and there effectiveness.
They discuss the use of such AIDS as drawings, pictures, posters, colors (Visual), cassettes, songs and rhythms and chants (auditive).
Their discussions of the eight intelligences: verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematics, visual-spatial, kinetic-corporal, musical, naturalist, interpersonal, intrapersonal
Every person has different forms of intelligences.
    Warm regards

  16. The new theories is an interesting reading for english teachers. It must be a worry for us to know the way every human being learn. We must be opened to the new learning theories, for eaxample the VAKOG is a neuro-linguistic programming model that examines how the human mind processes information through the senses. Howard Gardener works around multiple intelligences(linguistic, logical-mathematical, musical, spatial, interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence).
These theories remeber us that students think and learn in many differet ways.

  17. The reading is very interesting because teach us so much about the brain, it is good to know the function of every part our body. Moreover, it give us a wide vision of the new theories which are related to the learning.
Family and school play a very important rol in the process to form every person. After the parents, it is the teacher who has to help the children and youngs to discover their weakness and abilities. So the class is the best moment to encourage the learning through desing of several activities because in accordance with The Theory of Multiple Intelligences everybody learn of different ways-
Teacher must be very careful to get developing in each student their intelligences, this theory opens the door and create hopes for children and youngs with problems in some subjects. It wides the conception that there was about the process teaching - learning in the classroom. In conclusión, Education nowadays needs teachers of a free mind prepared to break the barriers and to help the students to be competitivity people in the present society.

  20. Dear Teacher.
I enjoyed this article , it is clear for me, I had the opportunity to develop a work shop, some years ago, with my students based in the theory of multiple intelligences and I really understood many of their particular vehaviours...If we have skills and talents it is important to discover them in the family , in the school in our job through different activities or practices since in many cases we just take in to account the same method, activity or material that do'nt permit to learn or improve the knowledgments.
We can develop many intelligences but obviously according with our enviroment or proffesion we have develop ones more than others besides our life style let us or require that we use any intelligence, for example: to make a drawing in the class, to dance in a dynamic, to write a song, or design a model...
To work with this theory will give a succesful view to the english teaching! I'm going to read more about Gardner , he is interesting !

My opinion about the reading and the Gardner points of view when we’re teaching or learning about a specific topic, we must involve all our skills and to know how to develop those skills in our students. We must prepare the lesson plan for getting success in our teaching goals. We are the writers of our teaching work and we have to take notes about all classroom situation so that we can evaluate our progress. We don’t have to teach or learn something in all eight ways, just see what the possibilities are, and then decide which particular way interest us, or seem to be the most effective teaching or learning tools.

The theory of multiple intelligences is so intriguing because it expands our horizon of available teaching/learning tools beyond the conventional linguistic and logical methods used in most schools. For that reason we decide our teaching and learning procedure in the classroom.

Nowadays there are a lot of sources we as teachers can use in our classrooms, because we have in our hand the students motivation for they can see English just a motivation in the scholar schedule but also as a tool to became competent and a critical being in this world.
The experiences shared in these pages gives the chance to improve our daily work, to prove new techniques or maybe carry to learners to use it as a part of their learning to deep the English spoken in class.
We can give them a base which they can improve by using these web sites, teaching them how to get the best; I mean to use the things already known to improve the new ones.

  23. i believe we as a teachers know that there are learning aspects, learning styles in our classroom, all students are differents, each student is an individual being and develop differents potentialities, they like different aspects in our class, therefore we need many exercises in order to improve learning process according students habilities, preferences,
it is very important that teacher used strategies that students enjoy, videos, songs, games , in these way tehe ca express , with emotion, sentence, diaslogues, in this way we as a teacher obtain better results in our dayli work.

I think that many specialized people are concerned about discovering new theories and which is the best way to learn english. They want to know what is the appropriate or wrong method to do it. It is important to consider that language is connected with many stiles of learning and diverse needs that presents each student according with the development of his/her intelligence and his/her learning process. Teaching as a whole integration of human abilities and though is a great bases to encourage children to learn English. To obtein good results it is important to take into account the preparation, the motivation, the desire of communication with children because of they develop some different affective, intellectual and physical characteristics that vary depending on his/her intelligence. We, as teachers, have to be consious of this and try to dicover and integrate all of these intelligences as a way of improving the development of the righ and left brain in each student, situation that permits us to explore and to improve our practice as English Teachers.

The second activity was good for me, because I could undertand how the brain works in men and women. For english teachers, is very important to enrich the brain knowledge, maybe it lets to put in practice many activities which will be a good tool in the teaching english process.
Long time ago teahers measured the student intelligence only in math or maybe in spanish test;big mistake. How many students had to abandon the school for this measure? many, many I think so.Unfortunatly those teachers did not recognize the important values and student skills, but okay, it occurred in the past.
In the classroom every student is a different world in this sense, we have to try them; not in equal form.
Like english teachers we have to know the students skills but the most important task will be to develop the student skills. If we design lesson plans where we have present the student likes and dislikes the teacher work, will be good and the student learning would be good too.
    thank you so much.

  26. Hello
I think it is a very interesting article because we usually make the huge mistake of thinking on our students as a group of equal persons but every student is different from the other, so we have to keep in mind that each student learns in a different way, each student has his/her own learning style, each one is a different “world”. So, we as teachers (monitors, planners, advisers, friends, guides, models, curriculum designers, researchers…) have the mission of being open minded persons who need to face changes, update our minds, theories, methodologies in order to help our students to be able to understand, remember, apply, analyze, evaluate, create, practice values, develop different skills,… into a confident, fun, and richness environment. It means that we should give our students the opportunity to develop all their intelligences. It is up to You!
    Thanks.

On the other hand we need always strive to create a learning environment where the students feel interested and challenged.Using activities and techniques like those multiple intelligences will help us to do this

  30. Hi Teachers!
I have ever thought that the humman brain is something extraordinary, years ago some people though that intelligence was only know mathematical rules but now, thanks to God, it has changed; through the Theory of Multiple Intelligences people can learn in different ways, it means that if you are not so good at maths you aren´t an "ignorant" but maybe you have other abilities.
I know it´s dificult to use every single intelligence in class, but the challenge is to start with simple activities like the ones suggested in the photocopies and so gradually we will improve our classes and motivate more our students.

  31. Hi teacher.
This is my comment about the reading "the new theories. The three theories related to the brain, the styles of learning and the multiple intelligences are very relevant for us because this remember us that each student is unique and has the chance of learning in different ways. This reading make us think of our way of teaching and working with students.
According to the theories, we can not see our students as a general and whole group since each one of them have one of the two brain hemispheres more dominant than the other one, so their skills and abilities are different and their brain work in a different way according to their multiple intelligences. Therefore, some students will draw, paint and sing well because they have a dominant right brain, on the contraty, students who are good with language, logic and mathematical concepts have a dominant left brain. Anyway the three theories are linked. We receive all the information through the senses and is our brain which process this information and help us to use our multiple intelligences to the highest point.
I am in agreement with Howard Gardner. He says that all of us are intelligent in many different ways and our intelligences are not fixed as it is believed before, but they can be improved, developped and extended.
Through history, we have been witnesses that this theory is real. History has given us famous people, who have developped one of the eight intelligences more than other ones, like Van Gogh, Gabo, Picasso, Gandhi, Shakespeare among others. All of them are intelligents in some way. I think a person is intelligent when he or she is sucessful in life.
To finish, as teacher, the question is What`s to be done? I think, we have to plan our activities everyday by using different materials in order to our students develop and work the two parts of the brain and thus, the multiple intelligences. Don`t forget our job is very important and we can help our children to be sucessful in life.
Thanks teacher for helping me to see my job from other point of view.

In this reading we find an important pedagogical approach which involves interesting and useful theories and topics to learn more about our daily activity as English teachers, so that we have the possibility to compare it with our own methods, experiences or teaching styles. It is also necessary to understand that the path to learning and teaching in a good and effectively way is through "knowledge", but even most important is recognizing the huge, unique and individual world represented in every student we are in charge. If we want to do real changes in the educational process of a second language, we must take into account the students´ needs, feelings, likes, emotions and differences.
Our role as guides is to help students in their personal and academic development and to allow them make up part of all kinds of strategies in order to achieve meanings learnings.
Thanks for give us the chance to know our own process!

The Reading “Didactics of English for Primary” gathers important ideas through Howard Gardner’s book “Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences”, it invites to the teachers to offer a dynamic class with attraction and interest for everyone using whole potential of the students beginning with new activities, wake up positive emotions, including opportunities for smile, combining the five representative systems: see, hear, touch, smell and taste, be conscious that is normal to have different learning’s styles and different shapes to see and understand the world.
This theory let us beside, think it’s time to do some important changes into curriculum structure, value all fortresses in students and give them the opportunity to development themselves through every their intelligences. By the way, will be activate the two hemispheres of the brain and the learning will be more effective for every students in the class.

Referring to Multiple Intelligences I think
It´s very interesting to know about this one but it´s very sad to realize that we as teachers sometimes don´t take into account all these multiples intelligences when we are teaching to our students, I think first of all because we are still doing our first "pininos" in this topic, second beacuse it´s very hard to work with big groups of students, but it doesn´t mean that we can not do it. The change is necessary in order to our students enjoy what they are learning.

I think that it is very important for us as teachers to know how the human brain works and the different ways of learning. However,in my opinion it is very difficult to apply this on the classroom, all the time.
If we take into account this, to develop our classes and materials, our work will be much better.

    Thanks

  46. the teaching of the foreing language in the official school is very difficult because the number of students is big and it is impossible to do a particular class for this reason we must to do a general class. we have not a special care in the students of easy learning; but, i can see it is necessary to change the practices inside ny class, using the elements that you suggest for us, because it is important to detect the multiple intelligences.

  48. LUZ ANGELA COMETA Q.Says:" I agree with the phrase: Each child is a world and each class is unique." We as teachers have the responsability of developing his/her potentials, sinc each one has a proper rhyme of learning.
We must give the good conditions to develop the learning teaching process in the best way.Teachers have to create an agreeable environment in which our students can learn without stress and fear. Teachers have to understand that everybody obtains information about the world throught the senses, however everyone of us use a different mixture of the five main systems and the result is that there are many different ways of learning. Finally i think that we as teachers must have a trunk completely full of possibilities and opportinities, in order to offer the best conditions to our students and permitting his/her learning in a pleasant way.

  49. Hello teacher
I`ve read and listened about multiple intelligences and neurolinguistic a lot in these days and I`m agree about what these researches expose, every single human being is a different world. Our brain and our environment determine many of our skills or we can say our intelligences for tese reasons we, as teachers must learn more about these theories and put them into practice to help our students to reach their fullest potential.

  51. reading explains the new theories of how the brain in the process of receiving, learn and take any information in the process of learning English.
teachers should be aware and understand that we and the students are unique and with learning differences, so we should hear academic activities with which to stimulate parts of the brain hemispheres and fulfill their functions and also not forgetting that each one has his own style to get alaprendiaje.
if applied in the process theories, this is where they give the minor some schools jen official language.
if you take into account the multiple inteligecias the student would be better knowledge of English.

  52. Dear Virginia
Given the triune brain theory of Dr. Paul Mclean, it is essential that the teacher knows the workings of the brain (reptilian, limbic and neocortex) to produce an excellent teaching and taking into account the differentiation of male and female brain, the teacher should likewise apply different stimuli in all classes and similarly be doing continuous reviews of the above classes to reinforce the topics covered.
As information is received through the five senses visual, auditory, kinesic (touch), olfactory and gustatory (VAKOG), it is essential that teachers make some tests before the start of each school year, in addition to exercise, gustatory, olfactory, tactile, oral and written stories, plays, mimes, songs, etc, in order to observe the skills that each student has to really understand the eight intelligences that Gardner speaks.

    Many Thanks,

The acquisition of student learning takes place through continuous practice in its different manifestations of language, physical, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, games of different types, attitudes, communication, etc. This allows teachers to identify and differentiate individual's true abilities of their students

  55. Teacher Virginia:
Hello. This is my commentary about multiple intelligences:
New theories of the book "Teaching English to Primary - How do children learn?"

This reading was very interesting for me. Knowledge about brain function in education is very important for both parents and teachers. According to these theories, such as multiple intelligences, learning differences between men and women, different brain functions, are factors that must be taken into account to obtain better results in learning. As teachers of English, reading invites us to stimulate different kinds of intelligences, in this way learning is more effective and enjoyable.
Most of our educational institutions have a large number of students by grade, of both sexes and of different cultural level, therefore, these theories permit us to teach according to individual differences of our students.

I think that reading is an invitation to continue studying into these topics in order to obtain better results in our work of teaching.
